Continuing the cycle featuring the "Ages of Europe", which reflects some of the most important European artistic movements, the theme of the Europe Series in 2017 is the Iron and Glass Age.
The Portuguese coin, created by designer Eduardo Aires, is inspired by the entrance to the old Crystal Palace in Porto, a building made of granite, iron and glass, opened in 1865 and demolished in 1951.
