United States of America (USA)

The United States dollar, also known as the American dollar, is the official currency of the United States.

It is used worldwide, both in international reserves and in free circulation in some countries. Currently, its issuance is controlled by the Federal Reserve of the United States.

The name dollar derives from thaler, an abbreviation of Joachimsthaler, a silver coin first minted in 1518, with silver extracted from mines located around the city of Joachimsthal ("Valley of Saint Joachim"), present-day Jáchymov, in Bohemia.
