In the year that the Europe Series is dedicated to "Great Painters", the Portuguese Mint pays homage to Mestre José Malhoa, one of the forerunners of Naturalism in Portugal.
The obverse of the coin shows the image of Mestre José Malhoa, represented in a plain with his palette and his brushes, an evocation that his art sought the faithful representation of nature, while on the reverse appears the reproduction of a detail of the painting entitled The Artist's Atelier.
