After the Carnation Revolution, which ended the Estado Novo regime and opened the doors to freedom, Portugal entered a demanding and unpredictable period. The so-called Ongoing Revolutionary Process brought with it profound transformations, but also political and social tensions that tested the country's direction. Between advances and setbacks, not only the model of society was debated, but also the very meaning of democracy.

In this context, November 25, 1975, established itself as a decisive moment, consolidating a path of stability, pluralism, and respect for institutions, allowing the coexistence of different visions within a common democratic framework.

50 Years of the Path that Consolidated Democracy in Portugal

The 50th anniversary of this date is now being commemorated with the issuance of the commemorative coin "Freedom and Democracy," designed by numismatic engraver Carolina Ladeira, which proposes a symbolic and contemporary interpretation of this historical milestone.

On the obverse, the silhouette of an olive branch stands out, evoking the peace and stability achieved after a turbulent period. On the reverse, a cluster of leaves carried by the wind suggests movement, renewal, and openness, a visual metaphor for the freedom gained and the pluralism that defines Portuguese society today. The legend "Freedom and Democracy" reinforces this legacy, reminding us that fundamental values ​​are not only inherited: they are continuously affirmed.
