This coin celebrates Sipsik, one of the most beloved and iconic figures in Estonian children’s literature. Created by writer Eno Raud, the character has been part of Estonia’s cultural heritage for generations, and the adventures of Mart, Anu, and their handmade doll remain familiar to countless Estonians from their childhood years.

Sipsik is a handmade rag doll sewn by a schoolboy named Mart as a present for his younger sister, Anu. Over time, the doll becomes much more than a toy — in the imaginative world of children, Sipsik comes alive, speaks, and joins them on a variety of adventures, while adults continue to see only an ordinary rag doll. This blend of innocence, creativity, friendship, and warmth has turned Sipsik into a timeless symbol of childhood across multiple generations.

The obverse side of the coin features Sipsik in his classic appearance, inspired by the original illustrations of artist Edgar Valter. His distinctive yarn-like hair and striped outfit faithfully reflect the character’s traditional design. The reverse side displays the coin’s denomination.
