Integrated in the University of Lisbon, ISEG has its origins in the Superior Commerce Classes integrated in the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Lisbon from 1884, and can therefore be considered the oldest high school of economics in Portugal. This circumstance is particularly relevant as it reflects the change from the corporate and traditional model of teaching commerce to the modern school model, its history is intertwined with the country's own economic and social history.
