Founded in 1876, Caixa Geral de Depósitos has been part of Portugal's economic and social history for 150 years, establishing itself as a benchmark institution marked by trust, proximity, and commitment to the Portuguese people, both within and outside the country.

For everyone and for each one

To mark this historic date, the Mint has minted a special commemorative coin, evoking the journey of an institution that has grown with the country and continues to play a central role in the lives of several generations.

Designed by Hugo Maciel, sculptor and numismatic engraver at the Mint, the coin features on the obverse the armillary sphere and the shield with the five quinas, national symbols. On the reverse, the emblematic logo of Caixa Geral de Depósitos stands out, developed in multiple geometries.

2,5 € Constitution

The Portuguese Constitution of 1976 marks 50 years as a pillar of democracy, enshrining rights, freedoms and guarantees, the separation of powers and popular sovereignty. Five decades later, it remains a current and fundamental text. The commemorative coin, designed by Baiba Šime, evokes the female figure of the Republic and the Parliament building, symbols of Portuguese democracy.
