Portugal 2026 5€ Multiculturalism PROOF

The 5th edition of the "Design the Coin" competition, promoted by the National Mint in collaboration with the Municipality of Faro, had as its theme "Multiculturalism," challenging young people to reflect on it through art.

The winning design of this edition was created by Melissa Garcia, a student at the Poeta Emiliano da Costa Basic School in Faro. Inspired by the multicultural environment of her school, the young artist depicted different hands joined together to form the outline of Portugal, symbolizing friendship, inclusion, and coexistence between cultures.

The obverse features the armillary sphere, the shield with the five shields, the inscription "Portugal," the year, and the face value. The reverse reproduces the winning design, celebrating cultural diversity as an integral part of the country's identity.
