*Cante Alentejano*—one of the most authentic expressions of Portuguese culture—is celebrated on this €2.50 coin issued by the INCM in 2016, following its inscription by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Characteristic of the Alentejo region, *Cante* is distinguished by its collective singing—traditionally performed without instrumental accompaniment—where voices unite to preserve the memories, stories, and identity of the region.
The coin was designed by sculptor João Duarte and is part of the series dedicated to Intangible Cultural Heritage.
It is a coin that combines numismatics with the richness of Portuguese tradition, immortalizing one of the Alentejo’s most striking cultural expressions.
